I’m pleased to report that since my last update, we’ve finally had some rain here in Northumberland, and the grass and crops are recovering well – unlike other parts of the country which remain dry.
The UK show season is in full swing. We recently had the pleasure of welcoming Michael Lambert to stay, and together we attended the Royal Highland Show – a fantastic event. My congratulations go to James Logan, the Chairman, for such a successful show. The Royal Norfolk Show took place last week, and by all accounts, it too was a great success.
Looking ahead, we wish our Next Generation group all the very best as they head off on their mission to Botswana in July. I’m sure it will be an incredibly rewarding experience, and we look forward to hearing all about it upon their return.
Warm congratulations also go to Peter Nation from New Zealand, who has been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours list with an ONZM for his contribution to the rural sector and his leadership of the Hamilton Field Days.
In my role as Chairman of the Royal Smithfield Club, I was delighted to host a group of members for a country visit following the Highland Show – two excellent days of farm visits capped off with a dinner.
In New Zealand, our son is now scanning sheep after finishing scanning some 45,000 cows – an impressive feat. Back here at home, silage-making is underway, a little later than usual due to the earlier dry spell, but thankfully the crops are holding up reasonably well.
Finally, I look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming AGM, which will be held at the Royal Welsh Show on Monday 21st July.
