Normally Spring is a lovely time of the year with everything coming to life. However here in Northumberland, the ground is so wet, although it is a lot milder. I am thrilled to announce that we have had a colt foal, born on Sunday 3rd March – a very exciting time for us. The daffodils are beginning to come to life, and we are calving & lambing in just over a weeks’ time.
I was delighted to hear that David Alcorn, who was Secretary to the Royal Highland and did a lot of work for RASC, won the Gun Dog Championship at the Crufts Dog Show – many congratulations.
In New Zealand, the school, where our grandson attends, have just launched a new farm safety awareness scheme (teaching the children about the dangers of farms). This is a wonderful idea, and one that should be implemented across the Commonwealth.
I have recently read reports of the Australian Bull Sales which are currently taking place. The vendors are always very generous with their hospitality at these sales, and I hope they go well.
Our weekly sub-committee meetings continue in preparation for the Conference this June. Please keep an eye on our socials and website for further updates. The Conference programme will be published very soon.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish John Bennett, Trustee of the RASC, all the very best for his first Sydney Royal Easter Show as President.
Bookings are going well for the 2024 Conference, and we strongly urge our member societies to book places to ensure their attendance. Here’s to June!
