The 2019 Understanding & Assistance mission is set to take the RASC NGs to a corner of the Commonwealth that has not featured on the NG destination list before – the Caribbean. The islands which will be included are Antigua and Barbuda, Montserrat, St Kitts and Nevis, Guadeloupe, Dominica, Martinique, St Lucia, St Vincent and Grenada. It is proposed that the two-week trip takes place between 8th and 22nd November 2019 after the hurricane season.
An itinerary is being designed to look into the agricultural industry across these islands alongside the food and drink sector. The mission is designed give NG’s an insight into this incredibly important part of the Commonwealth, showcasing the tropical and challenging environment.
A feature of the mission will be a visit to The University of the West Indies which has a world-renowned agriculture department with the bulk of the mission otherwise focusing on farm visits to traditional and modern-day commercial units. Delegates will also have the chance to visit the associated industries of food, drink and tourism.
The Mission will be limited to a small group of 10 delegates with preference given to new delegates and individuals from developing countries. The majority of inter-island travel will be via sea and delegates will initially convene in Paris taking a flight to Guadeloupe.
