Royal Agricultural Society of Western Australia
The Royal Agricultural Society of Western Australia has been hosting the Royal Perth Show for more than 100 years. Today the show which is held at the Society’s showground at Claremont in Perth attracts over 400,000 visitors of whom 140,000 are children and teenagers.
Like most of urbanised areas of the Commonwealth the young attendees have little or no connection as to where their food is sourced. Perth is Australia’s fastest growing metropolitan area on the back of the mining boom and the RAWA is in a unique position to improve that understanding.
With the help of the city authorities the RAWA has embarked on a five year strategic plan in which education and agriculture will play a key role in improving that understanding. This together with major improvements to the society’s showgrounds in Claremont will allow the RAWA to continue to play an important role on the life of the city of Perth.
